First, look near the bottom of the menu on the left side of your WordPress
admin. Click “Settings”. Look for “WordPress address (URL)” and “Site
address (URL)” and enter www before the URL.
In other words, change:
https://yourdomain.com
To:
https://www.yourdomain.com
This will log you out of your admin panel, and you’ll have to log back in using the same username and password you used before.
Click “Settings” again. Underneath the “Settings” section, click
“Permalinks”.

You’ll want to change the default permalinks structure to something more
search engine friendly.
You might want this to be:
https://www.yourdomain.com/postname
Or:
https://www.yourdomain.com/category/postname
To create the first, with only the post name, enter this:

Permalink Structure
/%postname%/

If you want it to be like the second, including the category, enter this:

Permalinks Structure2
/%category%/%postname%/

Next, you need to install a couple of basic plugins. These plugins are very
important if you want to get good rankings in the search engines and want to
get good traffic.

What is a WordPress Plugin?
In simple terms, a WordPress plugin is something that can be added to your
WordPress website to increase the functionality of it. Plugins can improve the back
or front end of your website and there are thousands of different plugins available
for free. All of these offer different functions for your site, for example – you can
install a plugin that will count the number of visitors to your site, where they came
from and how long they stayed for etc… (visitor can not see it)

These plug ins will help your site function more smoothly and help you with some complicated tasks

Google Sitemaps Plug In:

This Google plugin creates a sitemap which can be submitted through Google Webmaster Tools.

A sitemap helps Google’s web crawler to find all of your pages.
You can submit your sitemap here:

The All-in-One SEO Pack (AIOSEO)
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack
( I have used this plug in for the last 6 years and it has been great.)
You’ll want an SEO plugin, because WordPress is not naturally SEO friendly.
The All-in-One SEO Pack is the most popular SEO plugin and the original. It adds several extra features that will help your pages rank better and get more traffic.

Akismet

I highly recommend using Akismet on your blog.
Akismet Spam ProtectionIt comes installed with
WordPress, and it helps block a lot of the spam comments you might
otherwise have to deal with on a daily basis.
This plugin used to be free, but now it requires payment.
